What if we were “single at the same time”? Is a question that runs through the heads of many guys and girls caught up in a platonic relationship, while dating other people. To these people the constant nagging of the “what ifs” is often enough to keep them wondering if there’s something more to their friendship. Erin Gibney’s brand new single, “Single At The Same Time” cleverly explores this all too common dilemma, and sheds light on the thought process of those caught up in the in between.
Recently, we had the chance to chat with Erin about her new single, musical background, and what’s next for her.
Worlds Of Country: When did you know that music was something you wanted to pursue?
Erin:Music has been a big part of my life since I was a kid. The first time I decided that I would pursue music seriously was when I was 11 years old and I performed on stage for the very first time. I sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan at my middle school and knew the minute I stepped on stage that I wanted to be a singer/songwriter. I’ve been working towards my dreams since then and have always held onto that same goal!
Worlds Of Country: Once you knew, what was your first step towards making this dream a reality?
Erin:When I was in high school, I auditioned for shows like American Idol and The Voice, but the first big step I took was when I was 16 and I decided to come to Nashville from Connecticut for the first time to record my own music. This felt like a major shift from wanting to be a singer to truly pursuing being a singer. I officially moved to Nashville a few weeks after turning 18 and have been here ever since.
Worlds Of Country: Who would say are your biggest musical influences?
Erin: I would say that Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift are my two biggest musical influences. I have always been in awe of the poetry in Springsteen’s lyrics and how timeless his music is. With Taylor Swift, I really admire the way that she has conducted herself in the industry. Aside from loving her music, I have seen her as a really big role model for me since I began loving music as a kid.
Worlds Of Country: How would you describe your own musical style?
Erin:I would describe my musical style as pop country. I love combining the two genres and think it makes for really interesting and fun music!
Worlds Of Country: What’s the story behind your new single “Single At The Same Time”?
Erin: This song was written by three of my absolute idols in country music; Lauren Alaina, Josh Kerr, and Hannah Ellis. Recording this song and being able to release it has been really special and exciting for me. The song tells the story of two friends who have always had chemistry with each other and wonder what it would be like to be single at the same time.
Worlds Of Country: What’s next for you?
Erin: I have my upcoming EP, Rose Colored Glasses, coming soon!
